NATE & KATELYN

OUR STORY
A story as old as time... girl sees her ex on a dating app. Girl's best friend tells her to come over immediately for a glass of wine and debriefing.
The friend tells her to take a break from the dating app. She doesn't listen. Katelyn decides to give the next guy (within reason) who reaches out a chance. 30 minutes later a big bearded bald guy with "Here Come the Sun" as his signature song on his profile messages her. She is intrigued, the banter came naturally and they just seem to click. After 48 hours of non stop texting, they have their first date at a divey speakeasy connected to an Indian restaurant (hello, unintentional curry flavored cocktails). They have a good time. Katelyn recruits Nate to help her move a ping-pong table she found for free to her condo a few days later. Turns out the fulll size ping pong table is too big for her small condo (go figure). Out of character, she invites him to her best friend's annual Christmas party that evening. Literally every person Katelyn knew or had ever known in the Colorado area was at this party. Nate thought she was way cooler and popular than she probably was ;) They had a blast together! Katelyn's friends (who can be harsh critics, especially given Katelyn's history of questionable judgement) loved him .
They shared their first kiss outside on the deck.
Oh, she realized, I guess that this must be the place, and the rest was history.....
Almost 3 years later during the middle of a global pandemic they were living in that same house where they shared that first kiss, never happier. After decorating the tree, with a live stream of The Last Waltz playing, Nate proposed to Katelyn in front of their Christmas tree... and she said "YES, It's about time!" ;)
6 months later they bought a house in beautiful Asheville, NC and hope to live happily ever after!
XOXO
Home- is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb, burn with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground
Head in the sky
It's ok I know nothing's wrong... nothing
Hi yo I got plenty of time
Hi yo you got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money
Always for love
Cover up + say goodnight... say goodnight...
Home - is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home - she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did I find you, or you find me?
There was a time
Before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be...
where I'll be
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home and
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head
Ah ooh

Our goal is to make our wedding weekend as safe as possible for everyone.
We hope you're vaccinated. We kindly request you do not attend if you have any symptoms. Since the COVID pandemic situation is in constant flux, we will post any requirements closer to the date. Please keep checking back!
TRAVEL
TRANSPORTATION
Black Mountain is 30-45 minutes from the Asheville (AVL) Airport and 2 Hours from the Charlotte (CLT) Douglas International Airport
If you are staying in Black Mountain at the Monte Vista Hotel or somewhere in town you don't necessarily need a car- all events are either within walking distance or transportation will be provided.
We recommend renting a car, though. Uber/Lyft service can be unreliable. Also, the Asheville area is a BEAUTIFUL place to explore.
STAY
We are so excited to make the town of Black Mountain the hub for our wedding weekend! Voted many years as Trip Advisor's "Prettiest Small Town in America" and also somewhere that holds a very special place in my heart. Nate and I think it will be the perfect spot where our families and friends can get to know each other as we celebrate (and take over the town for the weekend)!
Every year as a kid on the way to summer camp my family and I would stop in Black Mountain and spend the night. We'd explore what used to be a very sleepy mountain town, eat pizza at My Father's Pizza (not as good as I remember FYI) and get to pick out a new piece of jewelry or art at Seven Sisters Gallery (still a MUST visit while in town!) each year. Although Black Mountain has grown so much since then, the same special small town charm still remains, but now with more art galleries, shops, breweries and yummy food!
We recommend you book your accommodations as soon as possible. Being a holiday weekend, in a tourist town, places are booking up quickly.
Although we love kids, we are hoping you can make this a chance for an adult getaway! We can offer babysitter suggestions, though, if needed.
Black Mountain, located 15 miles from Asheville on the eastern edge of Buncombe County, is a quintessential small town, complete with a charming and walkable downtown, a thriving arts and crafts scene, and—at 2,405 feet in elevation—access to incredible outdoor adventure.
Named for a mountain range that towers over the town, Black Mountain became a haven for pioneers in the world of art, painting, music, poetry, and architectural design during the mid-twentieth century. The town was once home to Black Mountain College, one of the most highly-respected and innovative experimental art colleges in the U.S.
Today it remains an artist mecca with multiple galleries showcasing some of the region’s best southern Appalachian arts and crafts.

Welcome to the Monte Vista Hotel! It’s an exciting time for this charming and unique property, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel has recently celebrated its centennial anniversary. This one-of-a-kind boutique hotel features a vintage soul with impeccable craftsmanship, historical significance and tasteful, modern amenities. The main building, the original 1937 Wing, contains 33 rooms with preserved historical elements. The Lodge, the 1950s addition to the hotel, features 14 single queen rooms.
Keep in mind that this is a historic hotel. It is very charming and nice, but the charm comes with squeaky floors, no fridges, most are queen rooms and many do not have TVs. I think the charm and us all staying together more than makes up for this! There is a big front porch and gazebo to hang out in, a restaurant/bar, a large patio area with fireplaces, etc.
The discounted rate for a historic queen room is $169/night on weekends and $149/night weekdays (plus tax). This includes a continental breakfast.
The Monte Vista cannot accompany everyone, but there are some other great options in the area. We recommend you stay somewhere within walking distance so you can still easily walk into town and on over to enjoy the bar, front porch, patio, gazebo, and the company at the Monte Vista.
